Meet Dr Vincelli
Oral Surgeon Dr. Douglas J. Vincelli
Dr. Douglas Vincelli has been practicing Oral Surgery in Calgary, Alberta for over twenty years. A native of Montreal, Quebec, Dr. Vincelli completed his post secondary education at McGill University.
He earned his Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Marine Science in 1974. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree (DDS) in 1978. He then completed a one year internship at St. Mary’s Hospital in Montreal before entering the graduate program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Montreal General Hospital in 1979. He completed that program in 1982.
Dr. Vincelli became a Member of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (MRCD) in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1984.
Dr. Vincelli then took the additional step of earning his Fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (FRCD) in 1987. In the same year he became a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (Dip. ABOMS). These are the highest designations, attained by examination, available in Canada and the United States respectively. Dr. Vincelli was invited to become an Examiner in Surgery for the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in 1991, a postion be continues to hold.
In 1994 he was made a Fellow of the International college of Dentists (FICD) in recognition of services to the dental profession and the community. In 1997 he was made a member of The Pierre Fauchard Academy in recognition of services to the profession.
Dr. Vincelli was named Director of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at The Calgary General Hospital in 1988, a post he held until 1997 when, after amalgamation of the Calgary area hospitals, he was appointed Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for the Calgary Health Region. He held that position until 2006, serving the maximum two terms.
Dr. Vincelli held various postions in the Alberta Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons between 1986 and 1991, serving as President from 1989 – 1991.
He has also served on the Executive of The Canadian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (CAOMS) from 1994 to 1998, serving a term as president of the CAOMS in 1996 – 1997.
He is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Calgary, and holds the same position in Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta. He gives several lectures to the senior class in Dentistry each year.
In 2009 he became a Fellow of the International Team of Implantology (ITI).
Dr. Vincelli is a member of numerous professional associations. He continues to be active in the Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Clinic at the Alberta Childrens’ Hospital, while practising a full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in his office and at the Peter Lougheed Centre.
He has been married to Deborah for twenty-three years and has three sons, three cats and a dog.
